EDUCATION & ACADEMIC DEGREES
I was born on 11/06/1953 in Arta, Ipeiros, where I completed my basic and intermediate education.
In 1972 I passed at the Medicine School of the University of Athens, from which I graduated on 6/2/1979 with “Very Good” grades.
I received my professional permit on 15/03/1979.
I received my specialty in Pathology on 13/01/1986 and the title of Professor of the Medicine School of the University of Athens with “EXCELLENT” grade (Thesis Diploma No. 1270), on 27/06/1989 and the title of Pathological Oncology specialty on 7/7/1999 (Prot. No.: 24802/99) immediately after this specialty was established in Greece.
WORK EXPERIENCE
- Between 15.3.1979 and 15.3.1981 I served in the military as a Sergeant Doctor at the 251 General Hospital of Aviation (3 months) and at the Infirmary of the Tatoi air base
- Between 27.6.1981 and 8.9.1982 I served at the State Hospital of Ioannina for rural area service, acknowledged as specialty in Pathology
- Between 6.10.1982 and 1.1.1984 I served at IKA as a doctor
- Between 24.12.1983 and 4.11.1985 I served at the Army Pension Fund Hospital (NIMTS) (1st Pathology Clinic) as an intern in Pathology
- Between 9.1.1986 and 9.9.1986 I served at the 1st Infirmary of IKA as a Supervising Physician
- Between 10/09/1986 and 9/4/1997 (10 years and 5 months) I served at the University Pathology Clinic of the Ippokrateio Hospital as a Second Supervising Physician, responsible for treating the clinic’s oncological patients and for the operation of our Hospital’s Oncology Practice. I was also involved in the training of interns, as we as students of the Medicine School of the University of Athens.
- During this time, I was transferred between 1/2/1988 and 28/02/1989 and between 5/12/1990 and 5/12/ 1991 (a total of 25 months) and worked at the 3rd Pathological Oncology Clinic of Oncology Hospital “Oi Agioi Anargyroi” as a Supervising Physician, heading a department of 15 patients and involved in the operation of the short-term hospitalization department and outpatient department of the clinic
- I was granted a further education leave by the National Health System and worked between 1/4/1995 and 31/3/1996 (12 months) at the Hammersmith Hospital of London, in the Oncology Department of the Royal Postgraduate Medical School. During this time, in addition to my daily involved in the Oncology Clinic clinical and educational work, I also worked as coordinator in transplantation protocols with peripheral progenitor blood cells, following high dosages of chemotherapy
- I also worked at the Tumor Targeting Laboratory of the Imperial Cancer Research Fund, on research protocols using monoclonal antibodies for cancer treatment
- Between 9/4/1997, when I occupied the position of First Supervising Physician specializing in Oncology and late 2002, I exercised duties of Director at the Oncology Department of the General Hospital of Athens Ippokrateio, assigned by the Hospital's BoD
- Between 2003 and August 2018, I served as Coordinating Director of the Oncology Unit at the General Hospital of Athens Ippokrateio
- Between September 2018 and to this day I have been working as Director of the 2nd Oncology Clinic of the Metropolitan General Hospital
PUBLICATIONS IN SCIENTIFIC JOURNALS
Two hundred and fifty-seven (257) of my papers have been published in international, foreign scientific journals, with 3,984 citations as well as 27 in Greek journals.

PARTICIPATION IN RESEARCH PROGRAMS
- Between early 1984 and late 1985, I participated as a researcher in the NIMTS research team which, in cooperation with London's IMPERIAL CANCER RESEARCH FUND (ICRF), researched monoclonal antibodies and their applications in diagnosing and treating cancer.
- During 1/4/95-31/3/96 I was in charge of a Research program for transplanting peripheral progenitor blood cells after high dosages of chemotherapy at the Hammersmith Hospital in London. During the same time, I was also involved in the Tumor Targeting Laboratory of the Imperial Cancer Research Fund, on research programs using monoclonal antibodies in diagnosing and treating cancer.
- Since 1988 and to this day I have participated in dozens of research protocols, in several of which I was the coordinator in charge. Their results were announced and/or published in international or Greek acknowledged journals and conferences.
- I am a member of the Hellenic Cooperating Oncology Group (HeCoG) Scientific Committee, which works on performing clinical and laboratorial studies. This group has completed a large number of phase I, II and III clinical studies, related to the entire spectrum of solid tumors, the results of which have been published in acknowledged international journals and have been announced in International and Greek conferences. In addition to being a member of this Group's Scientific Committee, I have also been in charge of planning, organizing and coordinating protocols related to cancers of the Gastrointestinal Tract. The Hellenic Cooperating Oncological Group was awarded for its Scientific and Research work by the Academy of Athens in December 2001.
- I have participated as a researcher in several International multi-centric studies with permits by the EOF and my hospital's Scientific Committee and BoD.
